I am a qualified and registered hypnotherapist and NLP (neuro linguistic programming) practitioner also employing cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches and techniques in Moulton, Northwich, Cheshire, near Chester, Crewe, Runcorn, Warrington and Manchester, in the UK using hypnosis within hypnotherapy for a wide range of conditions. I have been providing hypnotherapy services for people in the Greater Manchester, Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Lancashire areas since 2003. We are within easy traveling distance of Altrincham, Sale, Lymm, Knutsford, Holmes Chapel, Sandbach, Nantwich, Tarporley, Tarvin, Wilmslow and other towns in the Cheshire, Staffordshire, Shropshire, Derbyshire, and Lancashire areas. I am a registered hypnotherapist with the General Hypnotherapy Register, one of the largest professional bodies for hypnotherapists in the UK. The qualifications that I hold that are specifically related to hypnotherapy are: Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis, Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma, General Qualification in Hypnotherapy Practice, Certificate in Neuro-Linguistic Programming, Certificate in Past Life Regression.
Hypnotherapists have found that hypnotherapy can be beneficial for a wide range of conditions: to control blushing, fears, panic attacks, phobias, emotional problems, inhibitions, unwanted habits such as nail biting; to stop smoking, to lose weight, gain confidence, improve self-esteem, concentration, memory, study, perfomance at work and in sport; help sleep problems/insomnia, exam nerves, public speaking; to reduce anxiety, stress, stuttering, stammering; to bring about change in relationship problems such as jealousy and insecurity; and many others.
Hypnotherapy can also be of benefit in relation to some physical conditions where it has been found that these can also have a psychological basis: eg some forms of pain, skin conditions such as eczema, psoriases and warts. Hypnotherapy can also assist with such condiitons as high blood pressure. However, you should always first consult with your doctor over such physical problems.
If you have a condition/problem and you're not sure if hypnotherapy will help simply give us a call to discuss it with us without obligation.
What is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation. There is nothing mysterious about it. There are times when we all drift naturally into a hypnotic state eg: when we are on a long journey, or perhaps when we drift away from a TV programme that we've been watching, or we have gone into a day dream. It has sometimes been called the "waking sleep" for this reason. Although the depth of the hypnotic state will vary from one person to the next the vast majority of people stay fully aware of everything that is going on while they are in the hypnotic state. There is no possibility of you doing anything against your moral code or beliefs while in the hypnotic state or as a result of being in a hypnotic state.
Hypnotherapists may use a variety of approaches to facilitate the hypnotic state. One of the most common is to use a form of guided journey which will feel familiar to those used to guided visual meditations. People generally report sensations of well being and feeling relaxed when they come out of the hypnotic state.
Further information is given on the Frequently Asked Questions Page and it is useful to read this before you come for your first visit. Prior to your visit please also read the Guidelines and Further Information Page
How does Hypnotherapy Work? Most people have awareness of their problems and consciously wish to overcome them or change their behaviour. The difficulty is that much of our behaviour has its origins in the unconscious part of our minds which our conscious thoughts cannot easily gain access to. Furthermore, during our lives we pick up much "baggage" which resides in the unconscious part of our minds by way of negative messages, emotional conflicts, negative patterns of thinking and behaving, etc which compound our problems. Hypnosis enables the hypnotherapist to help you to gain access to the unconscious part of your mind and its contents and to help you get back positive control and to "re-programme" it into more constructive patterns which will benefit you. Thus the aim is to give you more control. You decide on what change you want. The therapist is just the facilitator.
Hypnotherapists may use a variety of approaches while a person is in the hypnotic state in order to bring about desired change. For example these may include amongst others: visualisation, de-sensitisation to phobic objects, positive suggestion, re-framing of negative thought patterns, age regression and past life regression. I also employ cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) approaches and techniques. I consider that "Past Life" Regression can be a useful therapeutic tool in dealing with some issues. I do not believe that all people on every occasion actually regress to a previous life (the unconscious is very inventive). However, even if the past life is on occasion created by the unconscious mind, the experience can be very therapeutic. Whatever approach is adopted it will be thoroughly discussed and agreed with you before hand. There are alternative approaches which are possible in order to achieve the same positive destination. Part of the purpose of the initial consultation is to discover what you will be comfortable with.
I offer a free Initial Consultation of 30 mins. This is a chance for us to meet each other and for you to tell me a little about the problem/issue you have and the kind of positive change you wish to achieve. Together we can check out that Hypnotherapy has the potential to help you. You may also have questions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy which I will be able to answer for you. There is no obligation to proceed beyond this point. It is important that you meet and feel comfortable with your potential hypnotherapist.
Should you wish to proceed you can either book an appointment for an Assessment or we can proceed with the Assessment straight away if you wish.
This is a very important part of the process. It is where we work together to compose a full picture of the problem/issue and identify all the relevant factors which are hindering you from achieving change. This enables me to propose a programme of hypnotherapy which is tailored to your particular needs and will therefore be more likely to help you achieve the success which you are seeking.
People often say they start to feel better after the assessment process itself as they have found it therapeutic to discuss the issues which are troubling them. Assessment can take from one to two hours depending upon the condition and the cost varies accordingly. For full details of costs please click here. Some hypnotherapists offer "free" assessments, but the cost involved is covered by higher hypnotherapy session fees. Again, there is no obligation to actually proceed with the hypnotherapy programme if you should change your mind.
How Many Sessions of Hypnotherapy Will I Need and What Will It Cost?
Following the Assessment the number of sessions required is generally three to four depending upon the condition and personal factors. Each session is for 1 hour. For full details of costs please see Hypnotherapy Costs / Fees. You pay for each session by cash or cheque as it occurs and you retain control of how many sessions you have. If you wish, at some point during these sessions I will provide you with a recording on CD, "tailor made" to you as an individual person, (ie: not one of the "off the shelf" recordings which are readily available, but considered to be less effective), for you to practice at home to reinforce the work we do together. For details of the cost please see Hypnotherapy Costs / Fees Page. NB: This is always subject to the technology working on the day resulting in a successful recording. I edit the recording, burn it to a CD and then hand it to you or forward it by post. If the original recording did not take your payment for the CD will be refunded. With the exception of one off smoking programmes it may be possible to attempt another recording at a future session.
For full details of my fees please click here.
Hypnotherapy to Stop Smoking
There is a one-off session of two hours for people who wish to stop smoking. While there are general tried and tested approaches within hypnotherapy to assist people to stop smoking the chances of success are greater if the approach is tailored to you as an individual. This is why time set aside for the Assessment is important.
Please see our Stop Smoking / Become a Non Smoker Hypnotherapy Programmes for full details of our alternative programmes to help you to stop smoking.

I am married and have two daughters and two grand-daughters. Here is a photo of me with Eileen, my wife. After training in the social sciences I embarked on a career in community work. I subsequently moved into Education and Training and undertook a Certificate in Education. For a number of years I trained staff in the Personal Social Services and Health Authority. Following this I had a long career as a Senior Lecturer in Social Work and Social Care. Amongst other subjects I taught Psychology and Management. I retired from my Lecturing post in August 2004 to enable me to devote more time to my Hypnotherapy Practice. My trance work has given me a lot of personal practical experience of altered states of consciousness. I became involved in hypnotherapy in a wish to blend my long- standing interest in Psychology and Consciousness with the possibility of helping people in a practical way to get control of their own problems and create positive change in their lives. I hold a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis from the Tara School of Hypnotherapy. I also hold a Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma awarded jointly by the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the Northern Council for Further Education. This latter qualification is matched to the National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy. I hold a Certificate in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and a Certificate in Past Life Regression both from the UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences. I am a registered hypnotherapist with the General Hypnotherapy Register
