Sexual Problems and Hypnotherapy
Sexual pleasure and satisfaction is part of a normal healthy life and an integral part of a fulfilling intimate sexual relationship. When we have problems in this aspect of our life it can cause much emotional pain, misunderstandings and difficulties in relationships and can dent our confidence and self-esteem leading often to feelings of depression. Difficulties can often lead to avoidance of sexual activity which both compounds the problem and often leads to misunderstandings, discord and conflict if we are in an intimate relationship. This can then lead to feelings of rejection, anxiety and anger which can add another layer of difficulties to the relationship. Sexual problems can arise from many different factors. Some conditions will have a physical basis and if this potentially is the case then it very important to seek medical advice initially from your GP prior to exploring contributions which hypnotherapy can offer. However, sexual problems often have a psychological basis either wholly or in part and hypnotherapy can achieve positive results. Our sexual life, sexual confidence and capcity for sexual gratification and fulfillment can be negatively affected by a wide range of factors: self-confidence, performance anxiety, stress, personal attitudes to sex and difficulties in a relationship, to name just a few. Sometimes causes can have their origin in earlier causes such as traumatic experiences, restrictve family environments, and negative early family relationships or family attitudes to sex and sexuality. Once a sexual problem occurs it is often exacerbated by anticipatory anxiety ie: "this happened last time we had sex so next time it is going to happen again", thus creating another layer of anxiety and something of a self-fulfilling prophecy.
There are a wide range of sexual problems that can occur: general sexual anxiety, erectile dysfunction / erection problems, premature ejaculation, vulvodynia, insufficient vaginal lubrication, vaginal pain, vaginismus, dyspareunia, anorgasmia, dysphoria, low sex drive / desire / arousal, and retarded ejaculation. These problems relate to the various phases of sex: desire, arousal, penetration, orgasm and resolution. Hypnotherapy can make a positive contribution to overcoming these problems.
Female clients may want to consider if they feel comfortable working with a male therapist or if they would prefer a female therapist. The most important thing, however, is to feel comfortable and that you have a rapport with your therapist, whatever their gender. You are very welcome to spend some time talking to me on the phone or to come for the free 30 mins consultation in order to decide if you feel we could work together effectively. In the case of female clients I always reqire that a partner or relative / friend with whom the person is comfortable should be present at all sessions. If it is possible for the sexual partner to be present this can be beneficial as they can be involved in aspects of the therapy. The latter is also true for male clients.
As I mentioned above I offer a free Initial Consultation of 30 mins. This is a chance for us to meet each other and for you to tell me a little about the problem/issue you have and the kind of positive change you wish to achieve. Together we can check out that Hypnotherapy has the potential to help you. You may also have questions about hypnosis and hypnotherapy which I will be able to answer for you. There is no obligation to proceed beyond this point. It is important that you meet and feel comfortable with your potential hypnotherapist.
Should you wish to proceed you can either book an appointment for an Assessment or we can proceed with the Assessment straight away if you wish.
This is a very important part of the process. It is where we work together to compose a full picture of the problem/issue and identify all the relevant factors which are hindering you from achieving change. This enables me to propose a programme of hypnotherapy which is tailored to your particular needs and will therefore be more likely to help you achieve the success which you are seeking.
People often say they start to feel better after the assessment process itself as they have found it therapeutic to discuss the issues which are troubling them. Assessment can take from one to two hours depending upon the condition and the cost varies accordingly. For full details of costs please click here. Some hypnotherapists offer "free" assessments, but the cost involved is covered by higher hypnotherapy session fees. Again, there is no obligation to actually proceed with the hypnotherapy programme if you should change your mind.
How Many Sessions of Hypnotherapy Will I Need and What Will It Cost?
Following the Assessment the number of sessions required is generally four to five depending upon the condition and personal factors. Each session is for 1 hour. For full details of costs please see Hypnotherapy Costs / Fees. You pay for each session by cash or cheque as it occurs and you retain control of how many sessions you have. If you wish, at some point during these sessions I will provide you with a recording on CD, "tailor made" to you as an individual person, (ie: not one of the "off the shelf" recordings which are readily available, but considered to be less effective), for you to practice at home to reinforce the work we do together. For details of the cost please see Hypnotherapy Costs / Fees Page. NB: This is always subject to the technology working on the day resulting in a successful recording. I edit the recording, burn it to a CD and then hand it to you or forward it by post. If the original recording did not take your payment for the CD will be refunded. It may be possible to attempt another recording at a future session.
