I am a spiritual counsellor in Stockport, Cheshire, near Manchester, offering spiritual counselling. We are within easy traveling distance of Manchester, Altrincham, Ashton, Buxton, Glossop, Hyde, Poynton, Macclesfield, Sale, Wilmslow and other towns in Cheshire, Derbyshire, and Lancashire near to the Greater Manchester area.

What is Spiritual Counselling: Is it relevant to me?

Spiritual counselling takes as its starting point that beyond and behind all the particular expressions of spirituality in the various religions,denominations, etc, there is a Universal Source or Creative Energy. This Universal Energy is what created and sustains us. We are indeed one with It and as such it is our True Nature. Living in the stesses and strains of physical life can cloud our identity with the One Source and rather than abiding in its calm and wholeness we feel ourselves incomplete, cut off, confused, angry, vulnerable and so on. If we can get in touch with our Higher Self and see ourselves and our circumstances from a refreshed perspective we can also tap into the healing power of the Universal Source and feel whole again.

We live in times of great change. Belief systems that once gave people a sense of certainty and security are under constant question. This is apparent in society at large but also in the life of particular individuals. People can undergo crises of faith for a variety of reasons. Some can find themselves in conflict with the beliefs of their childhood and family. Others can find themselves wrestling with uncomfortable questions about their faith. Personal traumas such as suffering and grief can leave us questionning the existence of the Eternal. Personal weaknesses and past mistakes can leave us with feelings of guilt, shame and inadequacy requiring us to find forgiveness for ourselves and to recover inner peace. Some people just need a little support in finding a spiritual perspective and way forward in their lives. Sometimes problems related to spirituality and religion can create associated emotional problems causing us to feel stress, and have low self-confidence and self-esteem, perhaps losing sleep. These are just a few of the scenarios where spiritual counselling can be helpful to finding our way again. There are many more.

The cost of each 1 hour session is: £30. Payment by cash or cheque at time of session.

Spiritual Counselling is also provided through telephone sessions. The cost for a 30 mins session is: £15. You may pay on-line through either the NOCHEX or PayPal secure payment facilities. UK credit/debit cards accepted. It is not necessary to register with NOCHEX and they will not charge you a fee for making a payment. Paul's Background in Relation to Spiritual Counselling

I am married and have two daughters and two grand-daughters. Here is a photo of me with Eileen, my wife. I grew up in a fairly conservative Roman Catholic family during the 1950's and 1960's when Catholic dogma, teaching and practices were still very traditional and somewhat rigid but the seeds of change were already underway. During my adolescence and early adulthood I had extensive contacts and experience with people who belonged to other Christian denominations. In my early twenties I became interested in Buddhism and Zen Buddhism in particular which I have studied extensively. I also studied Hinduism and to some extent Islam, particularly the writings of the Sufi mystics. This experience has given me substantial insight into the beliefs, teachings, practices and psychology of a wide range of religious traditions. This was further enhanced by my training in the social sciences which included the study of the sociology of religion and the study of psychology. My career in community work, the Personal Social Services and in Further and Higher Education gave me further opportunities to work with people from a wide range of religions and to teach and practise counselling methods, principles and skills in the educational setting. More recently I have studied Metaphysics and Pastoral Counselling with the University of Metaphysics and I am a Minister with the International Metaphysical Ministry a broad based ministry which believes that all religions have a purpose to bring some degree of spirituality or belief in the Eternal Creative Force/God to peoples of all cultures, races, and origins. A central belief that every person, whether they are conscious of it or not, is an individualized expression of God’s Universal Presence. The Ministry exists in part to help people from whatever particular tradition to become aware of that and to live a more fulfilling life and find inner peace.

I retired from my Lecturing post in August 2004 to enable me to devote more time to my Hypnotherapy Practice. My trance work has given me a lot of personal practical experience of altered states of consciousness. I became involved in hypnotherapy in a wish to blend my long- standing interest in Psychology and Consciousness with the possibility of helping people in a practical way to get control of their own problems and create positive change in their lives. I hold a Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis from the Tara School of Hypnotherapy. I also hold a Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma awarded jointly by the National Council for Hypnotherapy and the Northern Council for Further Education. This latter qualification is matched to the National Occupational Standards for Hypnotherapy. I hold a Certificate in Neuro-Linguistic Programming and a Certificate in Past Life Regression both from the UK Academy of Therapeutic Arts and Sciences. I am a registered hypnotherapist with the General Hypnotherapy Register

If you do not live nearby and it would be difficult for you to travel to us it may still be possible for us to do a home visit if you live in the Cheshire, Derbyshire, Lancashire areas bordering on Greater Manchester. "Tranquil Spirit" is a short distance from Stockport Town Centre and Railway Station and on the main bus route between Stockport and Bramhall. Davenport Railway Station (on the Manchester to Buxton/Hazel Grove line) is ten minutes walk away. The M60 Manchester Outer Ring Road is a short distance away (coming the west and south of Manchester via the Cheadle or Stockport junctions; from the east via the junction after Bredbury, signposted for Stockport) with good links to the M56, M6 and M62. We can provide fuller directions at the time of arranging a visit.
