What is Reiki?

Reiki Practitioners are simply channels for the life force/earth energy. We are all made of this energy and use it all the time. However when we get tired or ill an additional boost of energy can help with our self-recovery. The Reiki Practitioner simply acts as a channel, offering the recipient additional energy to assist the self-healing process.

The most important quality a Reiki Practitioner needs is to care and it is this intent that counts most when channelling reiki.

Anyone who consciously sends out loving thoughts to another human being is sending out the healing energy. The term hands on healing is simply a more direct way to channel the life force energy and therefore the benefits to the recipient are usually stronger and can be more effective and can often be felt sooner.


What Causes Ill Health?

It is now well known that many illnesses are brought about by stress and it is thought by some that some situations are only stressful because of the way we view them. For example fixed ideas and trying to keep up with the demands of every day life. Also peer group / colleague, family, and media pressure can increase stress. But if we allow ourselves to become more open, non-judgmental and slow down our pace of life our stress levels should reduce.


What Can a Reiki Treatment Do For Me?

Reiki can assist you to cope better with your life, however:

Reiki Practitioners can never guarantee that a patient will be cured and you should always go to your GP for a medical diagnosis and treatment.

Reiki can work well with orthodox treatment. It can be helpful with a wide range of physical and psychological difficulties and can assist in the process of revitalization, relaxation, and release at a profound level. It can help your body to adjust and heal spontaneously at its own pace and in its own way.

There are reports of some kinds of Energy Healing working almost instantaneously. However you are more likely to notice a gradual change with a greater personal strength to deal with your complaint.

Even when improvement is noted, as already explained above, for reiki to have a lasting effect, it is also necessary for you to look at ways you can help yourself i.e. by changing attitudes, fixed ideas and so on.

Reiki can either stand alone as a therapy or work well with others. It can be especially helpful in crises and with terminal illness.


Do I Need To Be Ill Before Receiving Reiki?

You do not need to be ill before receiving a treatment. Reiki can be used as a preventative measure by restoring balance to your life. It can help you to understand better your relationships with others, your own self-expression, and sometimes the need for change. It can help you regain control of your life by assisting you to help yourself.


How Often Do I Need To Have a Reiki Treatment?

A number of sessions may be needed depending on the nature of the problem. If you are experiencing Reiki for the first time it may take you two or three sessions to relax into the process.


What Will The Reiki Practitioner Do During A Treatment?

Yopur Practitioner will ask you to give some idea about your problem (the detail is not necesary). Reiki can be channelled through the Aura so strictly speaking there is no need for the Practitioner to touch you. However, it can usually assist in the attunement process if she/he places the hands lightly on your shoulders. Many patients prefer to be touched lightly on other parts of the body i.e. arms/back/feet/ankles and hands. Your Pratitioner will ask you for your preference.

Channelling Reiki energy is an individual "art" and each Practitioner will have his/her own work practice. Also, methods may vary depending upon the Reiki Master / Teacher the Practitioner has trained with. Some work purely with their intuition and have no set routine. Others will follow a particular process taught to them by their Reiki Master/Teacher with some extra time being spent on problematic areas. It is generally accepted though that the energy will find its way to the area where it is needed, so technique is not important.

Below is a general guide to the usual sequence in which Eileen works when giving a treatment.


What Will I Feel During a Reiki Treatment?

Some people feel and see nothing at all during a treatment. This is often the case when someone comes for the first time and is feeling anxious about the process. Others have reported the following:

Most people enjoy the process and report a feeling of peace and well-being. What is important to remember is that you don't have to feel anything for reiki to work. So: SIT BACK, RELAX AND ENJOY.


Are There Any Side Effects?

If this is your first Reiki treatment or there has been a large gap between your sessions you may experience some kind of emotional release as part of the healing process. This can be experienced as a temporary exaggeration of your emotions, for example: uncharacteristic weeping or irritation. Should this occur, the symptoms may be alleviated by drinking plenty of water.


Don't Forget

Your Reiki treatment will have enabled you to form a link with the energies, so it will be possible to supplement your treatment later in the comfort of your own home by placing your hands on an area of the body and asking the energies to be sent to that area.


How Much Time Is Involved?

For your first Reiki treatment it is best to allow about 1 hr 15 mins. The actual treatment will take about 40 minutes but Eileen will need to complete a few details and we need to allow time to explain what you expect from your Reiki treatment. Most people usually like to receive their Reiki treatment while relaxing upon a therapy couch; however, it can take place in a chair if requested.


What Does It Cost?

The number of sessions required is a matter of personal choice. For some, one Reiki treatment may be sufficient, for others a number of sessions, at frequent intervals, may be desired. Each session costs £20.
